How To Judge How Much Paper You Have To Shred

November 18, 2019
It has happened before, someone goes through your trash and finds an unaccepted credit card offer, they only need this opportunity to respond to the credit card company and activate the card. I-Shred is here to make sure your valuable information and documents are disposed of properly, so you never have to worry about identity theft by trash.

Whether personal papers are your own or clients from your business, keeping confidential information secure is essential. Storing documents you no longer need in an unsecured area can also pose a threat to your identity.

Let's talk about organizing and starting to get ready to be rid of those unwanted/unneeded important documents! Take some time to sort the ones that you need to keep from ones you no longer need. Lock the ones you decide to keep or scan them and store your digital files and keep in a secure place. Once sorted, shredding physical documents is the best way to ensure that they’re destroyed correctly.

Easy Ways To Judge How Much Paper I Have To Shred?

Often is easier to make an estimate when you have something in mind to compare it to.  With that said,

  • A hundred sheets of paper weigh a pound more or less.
  • A standard file box that is found in many offices is 13 inches long and can weigh as much as 32 pounds.
  • The longer legal sized file boxes can weigh twice that.
  • A drawer in a file cabinet may have about two standard boxes worth of material.
  • White trash bags can not hold more than 20 pounds.
  • Black bags can weigh 30-70 pounds depending on the thickness of the bag.
  • At I-Shred, we use a 95-gallon bin for our onsite jobs and for estimating purposes, we assume each bin holds about as much as ten standard file boxes.
Is It Possible To Get The Paper That Was Shredded Back Afterward?

While we understand all of those great reasons to want the shredded paper, Unfortunately, once we take custody of your documents, we must follow a protocol to ensure that everyone’s security is protected. This means all paper must be taken to the recycler.  When you use a shredding service provider your shreds will be recycled, which is not only good for the environment but adds another layer of security for your shredded materials.

At I-Shred, security is our priority. Which is why we ensure your confidential information is completely destroyed. I-Shred provides you with a Certificate of Destruction to demonstrate your compliance with the law and so you can avoid fines.
